Monument BW appDiverse Voices – stories behind the monuments

The free app Monument BW offers a new way to experience six selected sites – from a medieval monastery and a Baroque palace to a 19th-century sepulchral chapel. The focus is on stories by and about people – explore biographies from different periods in history.

The app enables you to experience “Diverse Voices” through a series of themed tours.

Encounters with individuals linked to six different monuments

Alongside prince-electors, queens, and abbots, the life stories of very varied individuals are linked to these monuments: merchants, midwives, craftspeople, female artists, and monastery students – their stories are rarely told, but deserve to be heard. The themed tours “Diverse Voices. Stories from Palaces, Gardens, and Monasteries” bring voices to life that provide a whole new perspective on day-to-day life in bygone centuries.

A diverse range of voices – two options

In the free Monument BW app, Diverse Voices can be experienced at six sites: Weikersheim Palace and Garden, Mannheim Baroque Palace, Maulbronn Monastery, the Sepulchral Chapel on Württemberg Hill, Bebenhausen Monastery and Palace, and Meersburg New Palace. Each site offers two different options: you can either listen directly to the short themed tour with videos and audio, or if you prefer, you can download the full Discovery Tour for the site. In this version, the Diverse Voices stations are included as additional layers of content – accessed via the “Quill” symbol.

Tips for using the app

It’s best to download the app and your chosen tour to your smartphone before your visit. This allows you to prepare your visit at your leisure and then get started right away when you arrive. You can listen to “Diverse Voices” conveniently on headphones as you explore the palace or monastery. Alternatively, hold your smartphone to your ear as if making a call – allowing for a straightforward, flexible experience.

These stations offer insights into how a chamber woman experienced the death of Queen Katharina of Württemberg, for example, and what day-to-day life was like for a Jewish court supplier around 1700.

Your opinion matters!

We recommend downloading the app and your chosen tour at home so that when you arrive at the monument you can begin your visit right away. This allows you to explore the monument in advance.
