Staatliche Schlösser und Gärten Baden-Württemberg endeavours to provide barrier-free access to its sites for people with reduced mobility. Because of the historic nature of the buildings, this is unfortunately not always possible. Here you can find out more about access to specific heritage sites.

Palaces

Heidelberg Palace

There is barrier-free access to certain areas of the Heidelberg Palace complex, including the new visitor centre and toilets. Access to the gardens and the courtyard is limited, due to cobbled paving. The interior of Heidelberg Palace is not suitable for guests with restricted mobility. The use of wheeled walkers can be difficult and is not recommended.
All walking sticks used must have rubber feet.
We request that visitors with reduced mobility contact us in advance so that we can adapt tours to their needs.

Schwetzingen Palace and Gardens

Rastatt Favorite Palace

Staatliche Schlösser und Gärten Baden-Württemberg offers a free tour of the ground floor of Rastatt Favorite Palace, complete with Sala Terrena and show kitchen, for guests with reduced mobility. The palace has two spiral staircases, each with 22 steps. Some of the doors are very narrow. For this reason, not all guests are able to visit the whole of Rastatt Favorite Palace.All walking sticks must have rubber feet; should visitors own walking sticks not meet these requirements, they can borrow one free of charge. On the upper floor of the palace, folding chairs are available for use during tours.

The prince’s apartment can unfortunately only be accessed via a staircase. Folding chairs are available in the palace for guests. In order to protect the parquet flooring, visitors may only use walking sticks with rubber feet.
